(A picture of Trixie at her new home with the Abdalla family)
Brady wrote this of her first day with the family:
Everyone instantly fell in love. Verna just kept saying oh she is so soft. The baby got the biggest surprise. He is big and bulky and Trixie knew what he was at first sight and immediately started treating him like he was a littermate. He did not stand a chance. She was all over him till he cried uncle. I finally had to take her away and make her stay with me till she settled down. She and I got home about 6:45, I even stopped and picked up a sandwich to eat at home. So we made real good time. That alternate route is now my standard route. Way faster. They opened that extension about a year ago and this is the first time I used it. Forgot it went that far south till my return trip. Nothing like that brand new road feeling.Well I get her in the house and open the carrier and she exploded out of there., and spent the next 5 hours cranked up to the max. But then she crashed. She accepted the soft sided crate I had gotten. Verna found a bolstered pad for inside it and a teddy bear about the size of Dozer, that and her rabbit and she settled right down and was asleep in short order. She woke just as we shut the door, but that only lasted about 5 minutes and she was out.I went to bed about midnight and woke at 4:45.
She was still sleeping but my shuffling around woke her. So I took her outside and she peed then we come in and she eats and then runs into the dining room and pees again (sigh). So I guess that is my new routine till she is house broke. Like you said if you watch for it she will tell you when she has to go and I did see her looking around, ranging from one side to the next, so I took her out and within a couple of minutes she pooped exactly where I want her to. Now let's see how long it takes for her to get the idea to tell me when she wants out.Right now she is asleep in her cage cuddled up behind her teddy. I have had to drag Ricky away from her several times as he wants her to play with him, and he was shoving his toys in there for her to play with too. Probably why she is behind her teddy, self preservation. But when she is awake she has no trouble with him, she is in charge, keeps him on his toes.
Point of interest regarding the cats. She met Rusty first, the chicken male. He got all upset and gowled real loud like they do when they are scared and arched and his tail got all big and every time she took a step toward him he would back up 2, no real threat here just a lot of show, but she does not know for sure, so she isn't trying to get past him. He finally retires to the basement where it is safe from rampaging puppies. Now Oreo the big fat crippled female is down and they are both lying under the table. She growls a little and Trixie wags her tail. She see's no threat in Oreo. Hope she don't tempt fate, because Oreo has not tried to hide or run from her because she is not afraid of her, she just doesn't want to be bothered.
